Run Game Day and the Officials Console

Record final scores, run the live officials console, and finalize games so results, box scores, standings, and leaderboards stay aligned.

9 min read

Game day has two result workflows in LeagueFlow.

  • Use Enter result when you only need to save the final score for a scheduled game.
  • Use the Officials Console when the score table needs to track the live game, player stats, fouls, timeouts, substitutions, quarters, and finalization from one workspace.

The officials console is the deeper workflow. It creates the official event record, projects the live score, prepares box-score data, and finalizes the result. Competition-game results feed standings; Match Games remain non-competition until they are assigned to a competition phase.

Before game day

Do these checks before the score table starts using the console:

Create and publish the game

The game must already be in the league schedule. The console action is available for scheduled games that are published on the schedule.

Set the league to Ongoing

Upcoming leagues cannot use the live console. Completed leagues cannot open it. Canceled games cannot open it either.

Confirm staff access

The scorekeeper or staff member using the console needs organization access that allows game management. The organization must not be in view-only management mode.

Check both rosters

Both teams should have active players before game day. The console asks the score table to select a starting five for each team before the game starts.

Find the console action

In the schedule, open the game's action menu and choose Open officials console. If you do not see it, check that the game is scheduled, published, not canceled, and the league is Ongoing.

The preview below shows the published schedule tab, a scheduled match, the game action button, and the menu item that opens the live console.

Record only the final score

Use this path when the league does not need live event tracking for the game.

Open the schedule

Go to the league schedule and find the game.

Open result entry

Use the scheduled game's result entry action.

Enter both scores

Enter the home team score and away team score. Both scores are required and cannot be negative.

Save the result

Save the result. LeagueFlow marks the game completed. If it belongs to a competition phase, LeagueFlow recomputes the affected standings. A completed Match Game keeps its result outside official standings until it is assigned to a competition phase.

Save the final score and mark this game as completed.

Status will be saved as completed for this result update.

After save

The game becomes completed after the result is saved.

Box score editing stays in the dedicated completed-game box-score route.

Run the officials console

Use this workflow when the score table is tracking the game live.

1. Open the console from the scheduled game

Start from the league schedule, open the game's action menu, and choose Open officials console. In the app, the route uses this shape: /app/org/:orgId/league/:leagueId/games/:gameId/console.

Check that the scoreboard shows the correct league, phase, home team, away team, venue context, and game state before the scorer starts entering events.

2. Claim writer control

Only one device can write to the official console at a time. Press Claim Writer in the Game Controls card before recording score, foul, timeout, lineup, substitution, or period events.

If another device already holds the writer lease, the app protects the live record and requires the active writer state to be handled before another device writes.

5. Record live scoring and player stats

During live play, each on-court player card exposes the main game actions:

  • +2 for a two-point score.
  • +3 for a three-point score.
  • Foul for a player foul.
  • More for extra actions such as +1, REB, AST, STL, BLK, and TOV.
  • Sub Out to begin a substitution.

LeagueFlow validates live actions against the current lineup. Scores, fouls, and live stat credit are recorded for players who are currently on the floor.

6. Watch the event log

Every console action adds a chronological event entry with the period, clock, team, player, and action context where available.

Use Undo Last Action if the latest event was entered incorrectly. Undo adds a void event and reprojects the console state from the event log.

Handle common game scenarios

Team timeout

Press Timeout from the team panel. The clock stops and the phase changes to a timeout state. Team timeout availability follows the app's current timeout tracking for the game segment.

Official timeout

Use Official Timeout from Game Controls. This is available during live play while the clock is running. It is not charged to either team.

Resume after a timeout

After a team timeout or official timeout, use Resume Game to continue play from the current period and clock.

Substitutions

Press Sub Out on the outgoing on-court player. The console enters substitution mode. Choose a bench player from the same team and press Sub In to complete the substitution.

Foul-out scenario

When a player reaches the foul-out limit, the console removes that player from the floor and shows a forced substitution alert. Live play is locked until the team selects a bench player and returns to five active players.

  • After Q2, the phase becomes Halftime.
  • After Q4, the game becomes Ready to Finalize only when one team is ahead.

Start the next period

During a quarter break or halftime, press Start Next Quarter. If regulation ends in a tie, the next action becomes Start Overtime.

Review before finalizing

Before finalization, review:

  • The scoreboard score.
  • Quarter scores.
  • Recent event log.
  • Player scoring totals.
  • Fouls and foul-out state.
  • Timeout state.
  • Any pending player attribution alerts.
  • Unsynced event count.

LeagueFlow blocks finalization when unresolved player attribution remains. It also requires the current console revision, the writer lease, and a valid final state.

Finalize the game

After the last period ends with a winner, the phase becomes Ready to Finalize. Press Finalize Game only after the score table has checked the official record.

Finalization:

  • Saves the final result as a completed game.
  • Writes the home and away final score through the results workflow.
  • Persists box-score data from the console projection.
  • Adds a game-finalized event.
  • Makes the console read-only.
  • Feeds downstream standings and stat workflows when the game belongs to a competition phase.

LeagueFlow does not finalize tied games. A tied game must continue into overtime before finalization.

Reset the console

Use Reset Game only when the score table needs to return an unfinalized console to a fresh pregame state.

Reset is available only when:

  • The game is not finalized.
  • This device holds the writer lease.
  • The console is online.
  • There are no unsynced events.
  • The request uses the current console revision.

Reset removes console events, scores, lineups, and quarter progress for that scheduled game. Finalized games cannot be reset from the officials console.

After game day

After the game is finalized or the final score is recorded:

  • Review the relevant competition standings, or the separate Match Games table when the game remains non-competition.
  • Open the box score if player stat review is needed.
  • Confirm public schedule or public standings views show the expected completed result when that league is public.
  • Keep any dispute notes outside the finalization action until the official record is confirmed.
