Import Rosters from a Spreadsheet
Import teams and players from a CSV or XLSX file with column matching and review before saving.
3 min read
Use the league roster import when teams and player details already exist in a spreadsheet. LeagueFlow accepts your existing CSV or XLSX file, shows the proposed changes, and waits for confirmation before saving anything.
Before you start
- You must be an organization Owner or Admin.
- The organization must allow management actions.
- The league must be
UpcomingorOngoing. Completed leagues are read-only. - Your file must be CSV or XLSX.
- Each included row needs a team name and either a full player name or separate first and last names.
You do not have to rebuild your file from a LeagueFlow template. Optional CSV and XLSX templates are available when you want a clean starting point.
Import teams and players
Open the spreadsheet import
Open League teams, then select Import spreadsheet.
The import workspace uses four steps: Upload, Match columns, Review, and Results.
Import teams and players
Upload your existing spreadsheet. LeagueFlow will detect its columns, show every change, and ask you to confirm before saving anything to Metro Community League.
1. Upload
2. Match columns
3. Review
4. Results
Choose your spreadsheet
Drop a CSV or XLSX file here
No LeagueFlow template is required. The first row should contain column names. Maximum 5 MiB and 1,000 data rows.
Prefer a starting point? Download an optional template.
Teams can be created automatically
Players are checked for possible matches
Nothing saves before confirmation
Supported formats: CSV and XLSX. Formulas are read as their saved values; macros are never executed.
Upload a CSV or XLSX file
Choose your existing spreadsheet or drag it into the upload area. You can also download the optional CSV or XLSX template.
LeagueFlow reads formulas as their saved values. It does not execute workbook macros.
Choose the worksheet when needed
If an XLSX workbook has more than one worksheet, select the worksheet that contains the roster rows. Changing the worksheet rebuilds the preview from that sheet.
Match spreadsheet columns
LeagueFlow automatically matches common column names. If required identity fields are still unresolved, use Match columns to connect spreadsheet headers to LeagueFlow fields.
Confirm the team and player-name mappings before continuing. Jersey number, position, roster status, date of birth, email, and contact number can also be mapped when available.

Review every proposed row
Review the team, player identity, roster details, proposed action, and any issues for each row.
Possible existing-player matches need an explicit decision. LeagueFlow never merges an ambiguous player automatically. Rows with blocking validation errors stay skipped and locked; correct those rows in the source spreadsheet and upload the file again.

Import 2 rows and skip 1. The import saves as one transaction.
Supported formats: CSV and XLSX. Formulas are read as their saved values; macros are never executed.
Confirm the import
Check the included and skipped totals, then confirm the reviewed rows. Upload and preview do not create records; the write happens only after this confirmation.
Review the results
The results step reports created, linked, and skipped rows. Open the first imported team to check its roster, or start another import when more rows remain.

Fix common import issues
| Issue | What to do |
|---|---|
| Required columns were not detected | Match the team and player-name columns manually. |
| The wrong XLSX worksheet was selected | Choose the worksheet that contains the roster table. |
| A possible existing player appears | Review the candidate and explicitly choose whether to use the existing profile. |
| A row is blocked | Correct the source spreadsheet, then upload it again. |
| Import is unavailable | Confirm you are an Owner or Admin, management is allowed, and the league is not completed. |
Spreadsheet import and other roster tools
Import spreadsheet is a league-level Owner/Admin workflow for several teams and players. Inside one team, organization Owners can also use Use Existing to reuse one player or Import Team to copy selected active players from a previous team.
